O.K. THAT'S IT!! ENOUGH SPIDEY BASHIN'!!!
Peter Parker got his powers from a spider that bit him at an exhibit of a radioactive probe.(There was no exhibit for RADIOACTIVE SPIDERS!!! or an explosion you dumb asses!! And you call yourselves fans?! JUSTIN!! You had to consult your notes to make sure there wuz no explosion? Shame!! You should have known that off the top of your head!! You loose 10,000 cool points!
And will you quit bashing the movie? Give the people credit dude. It's a MOVIE!! Obviously it's not going to be like the comic book. We have been reading Spider -Man since St. Xaver's. There is going to be shit that wuz in the comic that they just can't duplicate, and even if they could , it would'nt cut the cheese.......so improvise!
Personally, I think the ability to shoot webbing from his wrists is pretty cool.

On your coment about the suit, to use your own shit against you, Peter Parker DID make his own suit in the comic, so why not in the movie? (even if it was totaly bad ass!!)
The fight scene: YES YOU DUMB SHIT !!!!! I-N-S-T-I-N-C-T!!!!! Spell it out!! (he did that in the comic book too i.e. jumping 20 feet into the air too avoid getting hit by a car AND sticking to the wall of a nearby building. And this was 10 minutes after he got bitten by the Spider)

I would stay and argue some more but work calls.

Word of Wise-dum : "Don't argue Spidey with the CONGO!"

I'd have to check on that explosion thing but I'm pretty sure there was no nuclear explosion involved in the original story.

11:20 PM | Jus | url | #

McKain
Um, I'm pretty sure a spider bit him right before an explosion or something. Or the second before it died after an explosion.
That's what I meant, not just a random explosion gave him spider powers.

8:02 PM | McKain | url | #

Jus
In response to Reg:

1&2: Okay I may just really dislike Dunst for that role, I can give an inch here.
3&4: What are you talking about with that whole nuclear explosion thing? That was in NO WAY the origin of Spider-Man, that was the RE-made origin by Byrne, the original was a spider. And as far as money for web shooters, do you know the wonderful things you can make with plain old household chemicals and cleaners? They could've taken that direction, did we learn nothing from MacGyver?
5: Granted, in the comics Spidey's suit was repaired almost daily, BUT not magically, there were scenes were Peter himself would stitch together his suit, AND Mary Jane made him a new suit from time to time, so it didn't really just *appear*.
8: What I said was that J. Jonah was NOT like the comic, but like the CARTOON, two different things, with two different takes on the character.

I'm just getting really cynical with my movies, I've begun to write off even movies I think would be *good*, because honestly I just don't have the time to spend on anything less than *great*, or at least good with some high points, I'm not dropping my bar just because all they produce is crap, screw them.

2:30 PM | Jus | url | #

McKain
Thank you, Stefan, for being the moderate, middle-ground mediator.
(Note: this is not sarcasm)

I agree with what he said for the most part. The part about not calling it a good movie... I do agree with, but I was saying only, "When one goes to a comic-made-movie, this is what he/she should expect {gives a par}. Spider-Man probably hit that par."
It was not a wonderful movie, but was not a complete waste of time, not any more so than sitting and watching any movie is.

11:20 AM | McKain | url | #

Trace
Ok nevermind I gave into peer pressure and read everything. It's ok. I'm used to this now.

Wtf. Plain lookin floozie? Hello? Dunst kinda ... ok well I don't know how you guys see her, but she isn't ugly. Least they got the hair right? Hmm. Whatever. Unimportant. A real model looking chic may not have been able to act...

Lol @ Mary Jane slut. Same scenes with Superman. Hey my mom always says to have a backup boyfriend ok. *grin* If only I'd taken her advice...before... Anyways. So that's normal. Doh be callin names bitch!!!! Men is do the same thing. So!!!!!!!! There!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol @ sane person. Did Peter go : "AWW FUCK ME....SHIT! WTF!" Prob not considering the PG Rating eh? They switched it around to be all happy happy and to shift the flow of the movie...hurry it all up. If it was a 4 hour thing they would have gone into more detail for sure. We went through this with FOTR with the "this was sucky, that was sucky". I suppose we can call it art. Somewhat. It's like copying from the master. It won't really be the same, and it will be in the interpretation of the artist and soforth.

What movie from a book/comic has ever been done better? zéro. Interpretation.

10:43 AM | Trace | url | #

Trace
So hear what. I am not reading blogs till I see. Dammit. Damn you Justin.

10:22 AM | Trace | url | #

stef
Here's the thing

It looks to me (and I've been out of the comic world for a good couple years so I'm obviously out of touch) that Ultimate Spider-Man is closer to what this movie is like. More modern and so forth. Peter Parker is described as a part time web designer. I don't think that was done in jest.

But Jus has a point on the suit, wit and the webbing arguments. Mary Jane as a slut I can take either way. Dunst's portrayal was bad casting but even so....a good performance can at least cover some of it. Neither was there.

I believe the comic has Mary Jane making the suit for Spidey. My powers of recall are, of course, limited.

I break it all down to bad dialogue. Jameson had sucky lines, and said them all wrong..as comic relief as Justin said...Spidey had occasional quips, but not enough. The rushes of acceptance in the plot were a tad unbearable. Dialogue makes a movie for me, and to see the plot being mangled as if the actors were reading their lines straight from Issue #1 and not in a made for movie script was not acceptable. Comics have to have more elaborate language, more simplistic. Movies can fill in the blanks between the frames.

What was up with Green Goblin's attempts at persuading Spidey to join the dark side?

Now the movie isn't horrible, and I certainly had a better opinion of it than did J and bunnyhead over there, but I think that...even as a movie...it could have been done better at a fundamental level. If I simply called it great because there has never been anything better from a comic book movie I'd be doing myself and every other moviegoer an injustice.

1:31 AM | stef | url | #

mark
I used to type longer posts. Laziness. :/
All in all theres no movie worth going all the way up north to see. South cinemas suck. Although I beared with the shoe sticking to ground floors at gulf.. but mainly due to lack of choice.. and it was right there.

1:17 AM | mark | url | #

McKain
In response to the list:

1&2: That was exactly what happened in the comic. Flash Thompson was Peter's high school rival since the comic's beginning, if only because of the fact Mary Jane was with him. Kirsten Dunst was a horrible decision for a Mary Jane, but the character fit the story line.
3&4: It's a movie. People would be bored if they had to sit and watch through all of his scientific analysis and invention. Had they added the creation of the web shooters, you'd be asking, "Where'd he get the money to develop web-shooters like that?" And about getting powers, it originally came from a nueclear explosion. The story changed to accomodate an increase in scientific knowledge. He didn't have a flashback to analize because there was no life-threatening boom. It was only a bite. The look back was supposed to be inferred by the watcher.
5: Where did the comic Spidey get the suit? I don't know how many times the suits been ripped to shreads in the comic, then, out comes Spider-Man in a brand new dress. But that's overlooked in the comics. How come it's not in the movie?
6&7: Yeah, that was pretty stupid. And Peter Parker and Spider-Man were too much the same person. Remember in the comic where Peter went through all of the mental anguish after becoming Spider-Man, the weird hallucinations? They left that out and it kind of made Parker the same with and without the suit.
8: I don't understand. You ask for things to be like the comic, then, when they are, you want them to be realistic. Please, decide.
9: Yes, that was terrible.

Not to be a nag or a prick or whatever, but please, give me an example of a comic-turned-movie done better (other than the first Blade). It seems impossible to please comic fanboys and moviegoers at the same time. Plus, they have to make a profit. Don't ask a big company to make a film completely dedicated to the comic. If that is the Spider-Man you want, read the comic.

Jus
the top 9 things wrong with Spider-Man:

- spoilers, if you have not seen the movie, read no more -

  1. Mary Jane, who are we kidding here? she's supposed to be a model, not a plain looking floozie from across the way. Sure it can be debated she wasn't a model yet but I'm pretty sure no amount of wigs or make-up can make Dunst look the part of Watson, bad casting.

  2. She's a slut, or at least they make her out to be, and shallow based on her relationships portrayed in the movie, what would any woman see in that neanderthal she was with first? Sure it can also be debated that due to her family life she was drawn to abusive or emotionally empty relationships, but if that's the case the parallel between that and the sweet, lovable and innocent girl image they were trying to push was a little too unbelievable. She was with caveman, then Harry, and while she was with Harry she was hoping to fuck around with Spidey AND had feelings for Peter, slut.

  3. When Peter woke up the morning after he was bit, he simply looked into the mirror and was completely at ease with the massive changes his body just underwent, WHAT SANE person wouldn't worry or question the reasons behind them going from Jughead to Archie? And no the argument he was young and naive doesn't hold water, the Parker of the comics was a genius teenager who at least mentally rehashed the events that accounted for his change, the movie Parker had the analytical powers of a 12 year old, if only for that scene.

  4. Organic web shooters, hello, why the fuck do movie-makers insist on changing INTEGRAL parts of a character on the big screen? They already established the fact that Peter was brilliant, why the hell couldn't they have taken the same time they took to do his "room" scene to show us that he had secretly been developing a substance that would solidify on contact to air, it would AT least've been more plausible. AND at least, show us that there are some limitations, if his body's producing webbing then it MUST RUN OUT, it must be being produced from some protein in his body, thus making it a limited resource.

  5. How the fuck did he get that suit? They expected movie-goers to completely overlook the fact Spidey has a bomb-ass new suit from where? Did he also get the powers to be a seamstress? Yeah, you think about that one.

  6. When he got into his first fight in school, Peter did a triple somersault in the air and landed it, HIS FIRST TIME around, you think for a person just learning their powers and its limitations, he'd be able to do all that on pure instinct? I thought that was a little TOO much too soon.

  7. Where was the wit? Spider-Man was the wittiest son of a bitch ever to grace the pages of Marvel Comics, but in the movie he had what? Two smart-ass lines for all his encounters? It's supposed to be his alter-ego, he's supposed to find comfort in the anonymity and be the joke-riddled webslinger we know and love, in this scenario he was more fun as Parker.

  8. Jameson, the actor playing him nailed the cartoon J. Jonah on the head, but this movie was not a cartoon, he had as much believability as Bugs Bunny, Jonah was an evil bastard, not comic relief. They got that all wrong for the movie.

  9. Goblin's death scene, somebody fucked up here, and I think it was the editor, it was cut too haphazardly and laden with crappy dialogue, the final "shabam!" was more like a "kapoof".

All in all, I understand it's based on a comic book, and that's actually the reason I didn't enjoy this movie the way others may have, people might say, "Well it WAS like a comic book!", no, it was like what YOU think a comic book is, their image of comics is sullied by images of Adam West's Batman and Saturday morning cartoons, that's not what Spider-Man was, it seems that studios and directors never quite get that, and that trend doesn't seem to be changing.

Final rating: 2 and 3/4 out of 5.

Expecting Spider Man to be good with real people is like expecting X-Men to be good with real people.
(not wise)

But, nonetheless, I have a few bux (hahaha I said "bucks" but with an x, like "X-Men sux" or "White Sox." I am the a funny one) to burn and would rather be able to prove that Marvel needs to stick to the comics and video games (only the Capcom and the old Genesis ones, of course).

Hey is anyone capable of programming something in perl that'll automatically take the last 5 archive links from the archive page and save it to another file? If not perl, is this possible in php?

I bet you guys didn't notice the recent (yeah right) archive links for easy 9 disappear (due to the php problem), but I'd like this to generated automatically so I don't have to update it manually, any ideas?

12:02 PM | Jus | url | #

Yes, the php is actually fixed, but now they've gone and removed my ability to make changes to how it works, therefore I have to contact them - yet again - to make php process in .html extensions, thus why my site, and stacy's lack comments (mine lacks even more than that).

Liming - to hang out with your friends, e.g. "we just liming"
Salt - akin to the phrase "hard luck", e.g. "salt motherfucker"
Salting - to be deprived; usually of sex, e.g. "damn bro, I just salting these days"

I hope this clears a few things up ;)

Oh yeah and Stef, I did say 5, any 5, and I truly appreciate the author Webdaddy J. being in our fold.

By the way, re:econ., ...you said 5 questions...any five from any page right? or five pages? Holy roasted cows, I just had deja vu. I'm sure I dreamt seeing those words in Blogger's window before. *gasp* I dream about blogging? *bigger gasp*

Your first born? You're thinking of breeding already?

Never mind Regis, your literary prowess and coherence is enough to fool any of us into thinking you're Trini and not US. Yes that's a compliment.

Hmmph, with so many bloody web designers on this thing you THINK we could have a new layout in time for my first born, but hey.
